Conrad Sewell was raised between the UK and Brisbane. After discovering his love for music in early years already, he worked hard to make it in the business ever since. The success of "Firestone" and "Start Again" eventually proved his decision right. He currently is based in Los Angeles, living his dream to work as singer and songwriter.

Here´s an interview with Hollywood Tramp, also from his time back in Germany. Read the translation below:

The voice of „Firestone“ on now revs up solo
He´s rated as the most promising singers/songwriters these days, you may know from Kygo´s hit “Firestone”. The song ended up at the top position of the iTunes charts in 23 countries. End of may he released his solo single “Hold Me Up”, while his second single “Start Again” became #1 in home country Australia. We´ve met Conrad Sewell in Hamburg.

Hollywood Tramp: You already began with music at the young age of 8. How can I imagine an 8 years old boy that sends tapes to the record labels?

laughs – This story is a big exaggerated by the record label. I started writing songs at the age of 8. They became more through the years and I started to record them when I was 11-12. That´s also the point of time when I started to send them to the labels.

Hollywood Tramp: A lot of people renounce to go the classic way and choose to participate on talent shows instead or sing on their YouTube channel. You also tried your luck at a Casting show – unsuccessful.

I participated at “Australian Idol” but didn´t make it. Of course I tried to find other ways after that experience.

Hollywood Tramp: In retrospective, would you say you´re happy that you didn´t make it?

I thank god each day. I was part of the very first season. Back in the day it still worked to have success through those shows. After that, there´s hardly a winner who´s successful in the business today. Successful artists like Kelly Clarkson you can count on one hand. That´s why I´m happy now that I didn´t make it.

Hollywood Tramp: When was the moment that you realized your career was about to start?

That was when the song with Kygo “Firestone” went through the roof. Suddenly the music industry became attentive about my voice and my own songs. “Firestone” opened the door to my solo career. I assumed that it would be a long way but this success fastened the process.

Hollywood Tramp: How did the song between Kygo and you develop?

It was completely written already. Kygo produced- and put some of his mixing magic on it, that was it.

Hollywood Tramp: When you wrote your solo single “Hold Me Up” it became a bit wilder, wasn´t it? Tell us about it!

I was totally drunk in the studio. We´ve invited some friends and began to play, what was total fun. It´s a really live happy song with a lot of summer vibes. I wanted to write a 90´s vibe and fun pop song.

Hollywood Tramp: You´ve also been on tour with Ed Sheeran. How was it to play for such a huge audience and how was it with him in general?

It was amazing. He always supported me. People came always early to the shows and so they saw me as support act. It was a challenge to fill such a huge stage, it´s a difference to a small club. Somehow you have to fill an Arena with your voice and the best way to learn it is right on the stage.
Ed Sheeran is amazing. It was funny and we made a lot together. Also he showed me a lot. He´s an amazing guy.

Hollywood Tramp: Do you currently work on your first album?

Yes, it will be released by end of the year and I think it will be a timeless pop album. The most is finished already and I´m very happy with it. It´s all real instruments and the songs are heavily influenced by my idols, like Michael Jackson. It´s about life, live and the difficulties you have to deal with.
